Physics Education & Enrollment Research (and Sage Wisdom)
The following articles were written by former educators and physics education researchers right here in AZ and address the issues we are currently dealing with in physics.

Demo Material (demo materials were funded by the AAPT Bauder Fund)
Singing Rods
Any metal supply store should carry something similar. It is best to call ahead as must metal supply stores have to get the bars out and cut which sometimes can take a while. This is where I got the rods for the workshop:
Industrial Metal Supply 5150 S. 48th Street Phoenix, AZ 85040 |
For the bow rosin, I just purchased some on Amazon.
Copper Pipe & Magnets
Any copper pipe and neodymium magnets can be used for this demo and can be found at most hardware stores. See if other pipe material produces similar results (try aluminum pipe). The links below are what was provided to you in the workshop.
1/2 in. x 2 ft. Copper Type M Hard Straight Pipe
1/2 in. Neodymium Rare-Earth Magnet Discs (6 per Pack)

Balancing Nails
Mystery Tube
All material can be purchased for most hardware stores
For build instructions and lesson info see: https://undsci.berkeley.edu/lessons/mystery_tubes.html *For the ends you can cap with PVC caps like we did in the workshop or use non-transparent tape, so that you can replace worn parts over time as referenced in the link above. |
